| The beautiful image below is by Irish artist Edward Hayes, Hayes decided at an early age to become a marine artist he sailed around Ireland in his own yacht. At one time he took a job as stewart on a transatlantic ship to familiarize himself with the sea. The image hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland and shows emigrants being rowed to a ship which would take them to a new life far from their native land.
